Gilberto Jesús Mendoza wants to show that the World Boxing Association (WBA), above all, is a family. During the training sessions at the “Future WBA Champions” Camp in Medellín, the president of the pioneer boxing organization invited to his house the teams from Argentina, Uruguay and Florida, who are participating in the biggest project to prepare for the Olympic Games ever seen in the continent.

Since early in the morning, the three delegations mentioned shared an enjoyable working session with Mendoza, in which the president himself took part.

Why should I link up with the Amateur time? Because that’s how you really meet an athlete. My intention is to get to know their career from start to end.

“Boxing is a risky sport and we must try to minimize it. Sometimes you get upset because you are stopped in a fight but you must know that the most important thing is your health. That’s why we have the academy, to accompany you in that process”

“Thank you very much for coming and always remember that this is your home.

After the morning running, those selected did several technical-tactical work with the presence of Mendoza. In addition, the president gave them several signed books as a souvenir of that beautiful encounter.

Mendoza said he is very pleased to have the opportunity to meet with such dedicated and professional fighters and trainers, while he did not miss the opportunity to ask them for the long awaited Olympic medal that he longs for in Latin America.

The “Future WBA Champions” Camp is the biggest project ever organized on the way to the dream of Tokyo 2020 and it takes place in Medellin until next February 11th.
