Britain’s Leigh Wood was named Boxer of the Month by the World Boxing Association (WBA) after winning the Featherweight title with his victory over Can Xu on Saturday. For his part, Erick Rosa got the Honorable Mention thanks to his triumph over Ricardo Astuvilca, which earned him the Interim Minimumweight title.

The pioneer body released its ranking lists for the month of July and Wood was the top fighter after winning by TKO12 this weekend. The main fight of the first week of Matchroom Boxing’s Fight Camp featured Wood, who demolished Can Xu to snatch the 126-pound crown.

The 32-year-old fighter showed his great boxing skills. He knew how to work long distance and use his power blows to reduce the Chinese boxer’s attack and obtain a great victory that makes him the new world champion.

For his part, Rosa became the new WBA Interim Minimumweight Champion by defeating Peruvian Ricardo Astuvilca on July 21st in Santo Domingo. The 21-year-old boxer dominated the South American by unanimous decision and took the belt in only his fourth professional fight.
