Members of the World Boxing Association (WBA) Board of Directors held a successful meeting in Medellin, the day before of the Association’s 96th World Convention. A productive first part was combined with a lively afternoon in which several interesting topics were discussed and important decisions were made for the WBA future.

During the second part of the meeting, every category situation was clarified concerning current champions, special permits requested and the upcoming fights champions will have. Later, it was time to talk about the female boxing, recognition was given to female champions and topics related to improving the female activity within the global arena were discussed.

The WBA “Fair Boxing” was also a key point on the agenda, since they approved to make it mandatory for world and regional fights, so that the boxing activity can become safer and fairer.

The academic alliances with the University of Antioquia were also discussed, as well as the importance they have in the new era of the association seeking whole athletes going beyond the ring.

Finally, every board member offered their resignation and gave the President of the WBA Gilberto Jesus Mendoza the possibility of restructuring the board.

The meeting had personalities such as the President of the Colombian Boxing Federation, Julio Torres, who offered to work together with the WBA in order to develop the boxing sport in this country. Also the legend Juan Manuel Márquez was present, and he thanked the invitation and praised Mendoza’s plans to improve the boxing activity worldwide.
