Venezuela received exciting news with the reopening of the historic “Mocho Navas” Gymnasium in the parish of Petare, Sucre municipality, Miranda state — a venue that will reopen its doors with new projects and competitions aimed at strengthening local boxing.

Alongside the renovation of one of the country’s most important boxing hubs, the inaugural edition of the “Mocho Navas Cup” will also take place, serving as a showcase for young prospects from Petare and the greater Caracas area looking to make the leap into the professional ranks or remain active as they continue their development.

The opening night of fights is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, and will feature the WBA National and Fedebol title clash between dangerous local contender Jeremy Álvarez and unpredictable challenger Kelvinyer Salazar. Also appearing on the card will be the unbeaten and technically gifted Alexis “El Elegante” Álvarez, who is set to face experienced veteran Jasond Prado.

Among the matchups generating major attention is the showdown between unbeaten young prospects Jorge Sandoval and Jean Bolívar in a battle between two hungry rising stars. Meanwhile, Miranda native Ronald González will square off against Enderson Olivarez.

Prospect Watch

Alexis Álvarez

The former Venezuelan national team member and Bolivarian Youth Games medalist made his professional debut at the end of 2023, scoring a first-round knockout over Jheimer Farina (0-5). After more than a year of inactivity, he returned to the ring in 2025 and picked up three consecutive stoppage victories — defeating Oneiber Franquiz (0-1) in January, Marcos González (0-1) in February, and extending his strong run in March against José Ilarraza (0-1).

Álvarez (5-0, 4 KOs), just 19 years old, arguably delivered his best professional performance to date at the iconic Poliedro de Caracas when he cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Ronald González (2-14-2) last August.

Ronald González

Considered one of the most promising young names over the past year, Ronald Eduardo González owns a perfect 3-0 record with all three wins coming by knockout. González has showcased several standout qualities, including punching power, aggression, and constant offensive initiative throughout his fights.

He made his professional debut in March 2025 with a knockout victory over Jonathan Liendo (0-2), followed by another stoppage win against Keiber Acuña (0-12). His most recent appearance came in December, when he stopped Yomar Fulda (0-5) in the third round.
