Gabriel Maestre proved, once again, that he is up to face the great names of the welterweight division in the world arena and demolished Mexican Daniel Vega in one round on the main fight of “Maratón Boxística”, in Puerto Colombia.

The World Boxing Association third-ranked at 147 pounds defined the fight in less than 40 seconds with a left uppercut that sent the Mexican to the canvas for about five minutes.

Maestre takes another step in his goal of being a world champion and is now undefeated in three bouts with an equal number of KOs.

In the event organized by Alberto Agámez Producciones with the support of the WBA, Venezuelan Olympic medalist Yoel Finol won his third professional fight against
Colombian Javier Martínez. The bantamweight dominated from start to finish with a fine and elegant boxing style that allowed him to win every round and show his talent on this great event.

For his part, Rodrigo Caraballo had his litmus test and far surpassed it by beating Mexican Heberto Pérsico by unanimous decision. The undefeated Venezuelan fought too-to-toe with an experienced rival and won a victory that gives more dimension to his professional record.

Verónica Zuloaga debuted with a TKO in the second round against Colombian Mirleydis Hoyos. The incessant attack of the bantamweight fighter was too much for a brave rival who succumbed to the power of the winner’s fists.

Alys Sánchez starred in the first bout of the second group of fights with a TKO win after her rival, Colombian Paulina Cardona, didn’t come out for the fifth round. The former Venezuelan world champion worked very aggressively and dominated at all times to demolish her rival and get an important victory at 130 pounds.

In the co-main fight, “General” José Sanmartín fought 10 rounds to win by unanimous decision against Mexican Ricardo Román in a very competitive fight with good blow exchanges.

Franklin Manzanilla got a third-round TKO against José Alfaro in the super bantamweight division, while Mónica Henao forced her rival Lira Hyuke to retire in the fourth round in a lightweight fight.

“Maratón Boxística” was the most outstanding event in Latin America during the end of the year and brought together great talents from various countries. The event was part of the WBA Challenge, a program of the pioneer organization that seeks to give opportunities to fighters from different regions of the world.
