It should not be easy to go on stage to face the best of the moment. In this case, Smith, as an undefeated boxer, with 19 centimeters of height in his favor, faces a challenge that is defining for his career. If he wins, he will propel his present, breaking all predictions, something that few expect.

“I have already proven that I am a world class boxer, but I need to prove that I am an elite boxer and to do that I need to fight Canelo Alvarez”.

Much has been said these days about how much size differences can influence the outcome, but Smith says it takes more than size to achieve the result.

“I’m tall, but I have other skills to fight in the short and the long distance. I’ve been watching Canelo fight for a long time, and if I knew I didn’t have a chance, I wouldn’t have taken the fight,” he added.

Among the many possible opponents, Smith emerged as the chosen one. Canelo Alvarez, for his part, wants to put an end to a 13-month break and wants to end the year on a high note.

“I’ve already been in complicated situations. But you have to take hits in order to win. The idea is to win by KO. For me, anything that generates risk is what I like. This is one of those things. Smith is the number one at 168 pounds and we want to campaign in this weight division,” said the tapatío.

“We want all the super middleweight titles and to get there we have to beat boxers like Smith. We are ready to win by points or by KO,” concluded the Mexican fighter.

Canelo and Smith will fight for the WBA 168-pound Super Championship. The fight should start at 10:00 pm local time in San Antonio, Texas. USA.
