Few fights in boxing can raise as many expectations as the bout between World Boxing Association (WBA) Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez. Less than three weeks from the fight, Los Angeles already feels the energy of the event and the public workouts in the streets of the city were just a sample of what we will see in the ring on September 16th in Las Vegas.
The Kazakh, along with his trainer Abel Sánchez, was the first one to show his conditions and part of the work he has been doing during these months. The sound of his trainer’s punch mitts was the most notorious of his entire exhibition. The power of GGG’s fists is one of the most impressive of boxing and it was shown in the workout.
“This is the beginning of the road to history; in this division, there are many historical boxers. Do not miss a real boxing fight”, the Kazakh said.
Canelo and his mentors, the Reynosos, were next this afternoon. The Mexican, like his rival, did a full session, which included rope jumping, shadow boxing, mitt punches, among other exercises. Alvarez looked very good with the combinations and with a speed that impressed those present.
“This is the fight that everyone was waiting for, I’m going to give it all in the ring and I hope Golovkin has the same mentality to be able to make the big fight that everyone wants”, the Mexican said.
Golovkin, 35 years old, has a record of 37 wins, no loss and 33 wins by knockout. Alvarez, who is 27 years old, has a balance of 49 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and 34 knockouts.
