The World Boxing Association (WBA) Classifications Committee announced its female rankings for May, which includes the 15 best boxers in each weight division of the oldest governing body.
The Norwegian Cecilia Braekhus, WBA Welterweight World Champion, was chosen as the boxer of the month. “The First Lady” won by unanimous decision on May 5 over the American Kali Reis. This was a very important fight because for the first time HBO broadcast a live women’s boxing match.
Meanwhile the Mexican Yazmin Rivas obtained the honorable mention or boxer of the month. “La Rusita” was crowned champion of the WBA, after knocking out the Colombian Liliana Palmera and thus taking her belt at super batamweight.
