Mayerlin “La Monita” Rivas knocked out Calixta Silgado, in El Desafio III in La Guaira, Venezuela to become the World Boxing Association bantamweight world champion.
The Zulian Rivas, who was the interim champion, fought Silgado to dominate her without any complications during the main fight of the boxing card held on Friday night at the Polideportivo José María Vargas.
Four rounds allowed the Venezuelan to show a great defense and technique in the ring, working Silgado’s lower zone to shake her in different occasions. Filmily, in round five, after a right –left combination to the body, Silgado could not take it anymore.
The Argentinean referee Romina Arroyo gave took the count to Silgado, who decided not the get up any more.
Rivas became the second Venezuelan female to win the WBA regular title, the first was Ogleidis “La Niña” Suárez.
