Rafel Iznaga is an experienced Cuban trainer who has done a great job leading the Colombian boxing team. He commands the team participating in the “Future WBA Champions” Training Camp in Medellin, and yesterday he was in charge of closing the team leaders’ speeches at the opening ceremony of the event. Iznaga acknowledged the WBA as the only organization interested in helping the boxing world in the present juncture and was grateful for the project that is being carried out in the route to the Olympic dream of all the teams of the continent and the world.

“I would like to talk about two or three things that have not been mentioned and it is that everyone knows that amateur boxing is undergoing a world crisis at the moment. The organization that represents us is in a big crisis. I don’t think it’ had ever happened in my life, or in the time I’ve been here, it” began the West Indian.

With all the controversy and conflicting opinions about Olympic and professional boxing, Iznaga admitted that more than just talking, it’s about doing it, as the WBA has done: “This has resulted in many organizations speaking out and doing a lot of talking. There has been a big contradiction between a number of them. In other words, they talk a lot, but nothing really happens and here we see for the first time in history and in the time I have as a trainer, an organization that has dedicated so many resources to making a concentration that at the same time is uniting, in this case, the American countries”.

“Some countries stepped forward and here we are, I have to thank them and on behalf of Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, the World Boxing Association and the Colombian Boxing Federation we welcome all the countries that are here with us today,” concluded the home team’s trainer.

The WBA gathered 10 teams from different countries, including Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Panama, Italy, the state of Florida, Puerto Rico, Colombia, while Uzbekistan will arrive this Wednesday. The “Future WBA Champions” is the biggest project in preparation for the Olympic Games that has been seen in recent history and has the sole intention of providing the best tools to the participants in view of Tokyo 2020.
