WBA mourns the death of Luis Quiñones

The World Boxing Association (WBA) prays for the health of Colombian boxer Luis Quiñones, who underwent surgery and is under observation after arriving unconscious at the hospital following his fight last Saturday in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The 25-year-old Colombian fighter faced Venezuelan Jose Munoz at the Elias Chedwin Coliseum and after nine rounds of action went to the canvas in a confusing action. Quiñones showed intentions of getting up but it was impossible and he had to be helped by his team and doctors.

He was immediately taken to a medical center and arrived unconscious, according to his trainer Miguel Guzman, who told the WBA on Sunday. He is now in an induced coma and they will wait 72 hours to evaluate his evolution and make a decision on how to proceed.

The pioneer organization sends a message of encouragement to his family, friends and all his environment in these moments of anxiety. We hope Quiñones makes a quick and satisfactory recovery.

Two top-ranked female WBA 175-pounders will fight in November
