Conor Wallace took the World Boxing Association (WBA) Oceania light heavyweight belt from Faris Chevalier with a split decision victory on Saturday at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.

Scores of 98-92, 94-96 and 98-92 gave the advantage to the Australian fighter of British descent, who is 26 years old and has been slowly working his way up in the division.

Wallace took advantage from the beginning of the fight to come out with more thrust than his opponent and was able to take advantage in those rounds. Although in the middle of the fight Chevalier tried to come back, Wallace knew how to manage physically to take advantage again in the final rounds in a clear demonstration of superiority.

Chevalier failed in his second defense of the crown. The fighter of French origin but of Australian nationality made a brave and tough fight but it was not enough to retain his belt.

Wallace improved his record to 9 wins, 1 loss and 6 knockouts, while Chevalier dropped to 13 wins, 2 losses and 7 knockouts.

Barazarte won the WBA-Fedelatin belt by defeating Piedrahita
