On Thursday, an online teleconference was held with all the participants of the endorsement of the May 4 event in Las Vegas, in which Saúl Álvarez will face Jaime Munguía in the main event. Eimantas Stanionis and Gabriel Maestre were present at this discussion and talked about what they expect from their World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight belt dispute.

Both will be part of the evening in a fight of two undefeated fighters, in which the Lithuanian will make the first defense of his crown after a long process of inactivity and it will be against the Venezuelan, who comes with a lot of motivation to an opportunity he has been waiting for a long time.

Stanionis talked about the responsibility of fighting on such an important date as the one in May and assured that he will give a great show: “On May 4 I will show that I am back and I will give a great performance as I always do. When you fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend you have to come with something special”.

In Maestre’s case, he talked about how much he wanted this fight and declared himself ready to face this challenge: “it’s a privilege to fight a champion like Stanionis. This is the fight I’ve wanted for a long time and now things have come full circle. We had a very tough fight in the amateur and I’m looking forward to seeing what he has now.”

Both are in full preparation mode as they challenge less than a month to the big fight at the T-Mobile Arena. Stanionis has 13 wins, no losses and 9 knockouts, while Maestre has 6 wins, 1 draw and 5 knockouts.
