American lightweight prospect Floyd Schofield will face Puerto Rican Alberto Mercado for the World Boxing Association (WBA) International belt this Saturday night.

The YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, will be the venue where both contenders will try to win the regional belt of the pioneer organization.

Schofield is 20 years old and made his debut in 2020. He has been rising fast in his career fighting in his native country and in Mexico on one occasion. The level of his opposition has been growing fight by fight but he has been able to settle his fights with relative ease to earn his status as a good 135-pound prospect.

Mercado is a 34-year-old veteran who is a former regional champion of several bodies and is coming off a knockout victory in his most recent fight. He has faced good level fighters like Chris Colbert, Lamont Roach Jr. or Jayson Velez, so he has the experience to spoil the night for the local guy.

The home fighter has 12 wins, 10 of them by knockout. Mercado has 17 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw and 4 defined by way of stoppage.
