The official press conference was held on Thursday for the fight between Rolando Romero and Ismael Barroso for the World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight title.

Both men spoke to the press present at the event and gave their impressions about what they expect from this bout. Romero was originally scheduled to face Alberto Puello but a adverse result in an anti-doping test prevented the Dominican from participating, so now he will face Barroso, who was a mandatory champion. 

“I think Barroso is actually a better fighter than Alberto Puello, because he can really break. Anytime you’re in a fight with a puncher, you know it’s going to be tough,” said the Cuban-born American. 

“Everyone can look forward to seeing ‘Rolly’ with the world title around his waist on Saturday night. Every boxer dreams of becoming world champion, so it would be a dream come true,” he assured. 

For his part, Barroso assured that he is very focused and will be looking for the victory in this opportunity. 

“People who know me understand that I’m a warrior. ‘Rolly’ is also a warrior. So, if you’re tuning into this fight on Saturday night, you’ll see a battle between two fighters who are eager to become world champions. That means fireworks,” said the Venezuelan. 

“The lesson I’m here to give is that no matter how many times you fall, you have to keep getting up and fighting every moment. Because dreams can come true. Keep striving for what you want, no matter how old you are,” the 40-year-old puncher continued.

This Friday they will step on the scales and once they hit the regulation 140 pounds, they will be ready for their bout this Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
