Mexican boxing has a familiar name back at the summit. In a display of maturity, volume punching, and raw power, Jaime Munguía reclaimed world glory by capturing the WBA super middleweight title with a wide unanimous decision over José Armando Reséndiz this Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
From the opening bell, Munguía dictated the terms of the fight. Behind a sharp, authoritative jab and rapid-fire combinations reminiscent of his best form, the challenger completely neutralized Reséndiz’s aggressive approach. “Toro,” making the first defense of his reign, was never able to find his range against a Munguía who looked physically superb at 168 pounds.
The dominance was clear and sustained. As the rounds wore on, Reséndiz’s frustration became increasingly evident. Munguía not only outlanded him consistently, but also showcased a disciplined defense, slipping the right hands that stood as the champion’s primary weapon. The judges’ scorecards told the story of the fight: 117-111, 119-109, and a commanding 120-108 shutout.
After the bout, an emotional Munguía spoke to the broadcast team:
“I feel very happy, very proud of this achievement. We worked extremely hard in the gym for this. We knew Reséndiz was a tough fighter, but we came determined to take back what belongs to us.”
With the victory, Munguía improves to 46-2 and reestablishes himself as a major force in the division, opening the door for potential unification bouts or high-profile matchups as 2026 heads toward its final stretch.
