David Morrell Jr. left no doubt about his talent on Sunday night and delivered one of the best knockouts of the year in the first round against Mexican Mario Cazares defending his World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight championship at the Minneapolis Armory in Minnesota.

The Cuban champion starred in the main fight of the Premier Boxing Champions event in what it was a great test in the first defense of his championship.

The Mexican entered the fight undefeated and he had surprised Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last September at 175 pounds. Despite that, Morrell came filled with confidence and managed to land two straight lefts in a row to knock the Mexican down in spectacularly in the very first round.

The 23-year-old southpaw fighter took a big step in his career and is now looking to take on some of the division’s top contenders. It was the fifth victory for Morrell, who completed his fourth knockout, while Cazares left his record at 12 wins and 1 loss.

Colbert and Nyambayar will fight for the WBA Interim belt this Saturday
