Last May, the retirement of former champion Miriam Gutierrez was made official. At the age of 40, she put an end to a great career as a fighter, which has always included a great work in other areas.

Gutierrez has tried to support women from her political position and in all walks of life, so now that she is not an active fighter she wants to continue being a guide for them and provide her experience.

“One of the things I love and feel very proud of is the amount of women we have in the gym to practice a sport that I love, which is boxing,” said the “Queen” in an interview with Cadena SER this week.

Gutierrez talked about having suffered gender violence and how she was able to overcome the situation to become someone who helps other women.

“I was able to get out by holding on to everyone who lent me a hand and, I have to admit, I had a lot of hands. In addition to my family and friends, one of those hands was that of a coach who told me, from here on up,” said the Spanish woman, “If you don’t ask for help you are lost, silence makes you much smaller,” she recalled.

The politician continues to work for women and for all those who need her in a show of solidarity and empathy that has made her an insignia both inside and outside boxing.
