Michel Rivera scored an impressive knockout over Jon Fernandez in the eighth round on Saturday night during their World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight eliminator bout at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The Dominican showed a lot of good things during a tough fight against the Spanish challenger and finished on a high note thanks to that spectacular knockout, which has been one of the best of the year so far. A jab and straight combination dramatically knocked down Fernandez, who was unable to recover after those impacts.

“La Zarza” recovered from a knockdown in the sixth round. The Caribbean was caught by a big right hand to the chin by the Iberian and went to the canvas, too. He had to battle to finish that round against the onslaught of Fernandez, who was trying to finish the fight.

But Rivera was able to hold on and beat the bell to resume the plan he had from the start of the fight. In the end, his right hand was the key to ending the fight.

The 23-year-old Dominican remained undefeated in 21 fights, with 14 knockouts, while Fernandez dropped his record to 21 wins, 2 losses and 18 knockouts.
