David “Medallita” Jimenez became the new World Boxing Association (WBA) Flyweight Gold champion after defeating Mexican Edwin Cano by knockout in the third round on Saturday night at the Fight Club Gym in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The southpaw fighter tipped the scales to his side from the first minute and came out with a blistering pace against Cano to dominate the fight at will and get an important victory for his career.

With just seconds left in the third round, Jimenez went on the attack against a Cano who looked physically diminished from the punishment and scored the knockout after a combination to the face that sent the visiting fighter to the canvas. Although the third man in the ring made the count, Cano could not get up and heard the count of ten until the victory in favor of the local was decreed.

The 29-year-old Costa Rican is undefeated in 9 fights, 7 of them by knockout. Cano, on the other hand, improved his record to 9 wins, 1 loss and 2 knockouts.
