Yurik Mamedov became the new World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin super lightweight champion after scoring a technical knockout over Jose Balam Morales at the Palenque de la Feria de Tepic, in Nayarit, Mexico.

The 31-year-old Frenchman was patient enough to handle the fight in the early rounds and get the stoppage by the seventh round in an entertaining bout.

Mamedov struggled in the early part of the bout, in which Morales stood his ground and pressured the European with hard and consistent punches. However, the visiting fighter began to impose himself at the height of the fifth round and worked well to the middle area to open the guard of his opponent and begin to take them also to the face.

In the end, he got the referee to stop the actions and a great victory for his career, which puts him in the race for better opportunities in the short term.
