On her way to become one of the best 135 lbs. boxers, Uruguayan fighter Maira Moneo will defend her WBA FEDELATIN belt on Saturday, February 26th against local Argentinean Estefania Alaniz. The venue will be the Héctor Galluci Municipal Stadium in the city of San Lorenzo, province of Santa Fe.

Moneo is nicknamed “Panterita” and is ranked number 1 in the WBA ranking. In 2020 she fought against the also Argentinean Yanina Lescano for the South American title. But a clash of heads caused a cut over the right eye and was seen by the referee as an intentional action, therefore, Moneo was disqualified. The following year, she got the opportunity to fight for the FEDELATIN lightweight title against the experienced Romina Guichapani and with great determination, Moneo defeated her by technical knockout in the ninth round.

One of “Panterita’s” greatest desires is to face Katie Taylor, whom she admires as a boxer. Moneo’s record so far is 8 wins with 2 knockouts and 1 loss. While her opponent Alaniz has 5 wins with 1 knockout, 5 defeats and 1 draw. It is worth mentioning that next Saturday’s fight will be the third time that both fighters will face each other in the ring.
