Keep an eye on Azat Hovhannisyan

Azat Hovhannisyan is ranked third in the World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight division and will fight American Raeese Aleem in an eliminator fight to define the next mandatory challenger of Murodjon Akhmadaliev, super champion of the category.

The Armenian-born has been a professional since 2011 and could be back in a big fight if he manages to prevail in his next challenge against the American opponent, a fight that will be auctioned this Friday.

“Crazy A” is a fighter who has earned his place and despite not being one of the most mediatic of the division, he occupies a place at the top of the ranking of the pioneer organization, in addition to being in several specialized media lists of the best.

He currently has six wins in a row and has not lost since 2018 when he got his only opportunity for a world title against Rey Vargas. On that occasion he lost by unanimous decision and missed winning the WBC belt.

Since then he has taken fights against good opponents and has managed to beat them all thanks to his good boxing and strength. The 33-year-old fighter seems to be in his prime but now he faces his most important and complicated challenge against Aleem.

A win would put him as the official challenger for the championship and he has the tools to go for it. For that reason he deserves the boxing world to keep an eye on him.

"Zurdo" Ramirez and Yunieski Gonzalez will fight in WBA eliminator on Dec. 18
