The World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight champion, Venezuelan Roger Gutierrez, will return to the ring on August 20 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, to face Dominican Hector Garcia in defense of his crown. 

Gutierrez and Garcia will clash in a mandatory 130 lbs. fight and will be part of an evening in which the vacant super lightweight belt will also be contested between Alberto Puello and Botirzhon Akhmedov.

The Venezuelan will make the second defense of his belt, which he won in January 2021 after defeating Nicaraguan René Alvarado. In August of that same year he returned to the ring and again defeated Alvarado to make his first defense. 

Although he was supposed to face Chris Colbert in February, the Covid prevented Gutierrez from making that fight. He was eventually replaced by Garcia, who fought the American in a knockout and defeated him to earn the right to challenge the champion.

The Quintana Roo fighter is a southpaw with a good amateur career and has been growing a lot in the professional ranks. He is facing the opportunity of his career and feels ready to take on the challenge.

Gutierrez has a record of 26 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and 20 knockouts, while Garcia has 15 wins, no losses and 10 knockouts.
