The Australian Andrew Moloney and the Panamanian Luis Concepcion will face each other on September 8th in Victoria, Australia, in a fight for the Super Flyweight Oceania title of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

A victory for Moloney would mark the rise of the young star up the boxing ladder and in the case of a Concepción victory, this would keep him in the forefront of boxing.

A little over a month out, Moloney holds his camp in Australia at the hands of his coach Angelo Hyder, and Concepcion does the same but in his native Panama under the direction of Juan Mosquera.

Moloney, known as “The Monster”, will take part in the most difficult fight of his career with a record of 17 wins and 10 knockouts.

He started boxing professionally in October 2014 and this time he will defend for the fourth time his Oceania Super Flyweight WBA Title.

“El Nica” Concepcion (ranked # 7), enters the fight with a long record of experience after having reigned as champion three times, one of them in the fly division and two in the 115 pound division.

His record speaks for itself as he has 37 wins, 6 defeats and 26 fights resolved by the fast track via knockout.

When we talk about the opposition of both fighters, the Panamanian leads his opponent, with his resume including names like Hernan Marquez, Khalid Yafai, Noel Arambulet, Omar Salado, Roberto Leiva, Kohei Kono, and Denkaosan Kaovichit among others.

For his part, Moloney will face this challenge at his best after 4 years of being undefeated and being ranked 6th in the standings and beating rivals such as Richard Claveras, Rene Dacquel and Hashimu Zuberi.

To find out what these two fighters will be bringing into the ring, we made telephone contact to Australia and Panama, respectively, to talk to the fighters.

Moloney told us the following: “We accept the fight because it is what we are looking for, I need to overcome this type of test to be ready when it comes to fighting for a world title”.

As for what he thinks of his Panamanian opponent, he said: “I know that the boxers of Panama are great warriors, as was one of my idols Roberto Duran and we expect the same from Concepcion in September.”

“We know about the experience of the Panamanian, but I am hungry to win and the show my qualities in victory. Just wait to see the best version of my boxing; I can fight inside and outside” added Moloney.

“I started in this sport motivated by my brother Jason Moloney and the great Danny Green. I do not intend to miss this opportunity and for that I thank the family of the WBA”, concluded the Australian.

The contact with the Panamanian fighter was calm and enjoyable, worthy of a boxer of his experience.

“My rival is undefeated, but by reviewing his record he has not had the same opposition that I have faced in my career. I already studied it and we know what we are going to do in Australia, fighting inside or outside we have things clear” Concepcion added.

“I’m motivated to win the fight and seek to crown myself again, I do not trust the opponent, but I’m sure of the work we are doing to get out with the hand up,” Concepcion said.

Regarding his experience, he said: “My life has changed a lot for different reasons, I no longer live such a hectic life and I hope to continue doing things well to be able to maintain myself at a good level for another 3 to 5 years”, he concluded.
