Carlos Cañizales delivered a brutal fourth round knockout to Ganigan Lopez and won the Continental Americas flyweight crown on Saturday night during the bout held at the Foro Centenario, in Coyoacan, Mexico City.

The Venezuelan connected with an upper that crashed near the Mexican’s ear and sent him to the canvas in the fourth round without a chance to recover to score a great knockout in the main fight of this weekend.

“CCC” started with a frenetic pace and worked very well with his jab despite having less height and reach than the veteran local fighter. The volume of punches and the counter attack were key for the South American, who set the tone from the first minute of the fight.

As the rounds went on, Cañizales continued to dominate against a Lopez who found few answers. In the fourth round a more determined Ganigan was seen and even managed to connect a couple of good punches, but that overconfidence was what played against him as he neglected his guard and Cañizales was able to connect the blow that ended the fight.

The Venezuelan continues on his road to recovery and a new world championship opportunity. He won his 24th fight, while he has 1 loss and 1 draw, in addition to 18 knockouts. Lopez dropped his record to 37 wins, 12 losses and 19 knockouts.
