Argentina farewells the President of the Boxing Federation, Luis Romio.

From every corner of Argentina a message of affection appeared on social media when his passing was made public. On Sunday morning, the president of the Argentine Boxing Federation, Mr. Luis Romio, passed away. The World Boxing Association expresses its condolences to the family for this sensitive loss.

The president took office in 2016 when he had already had an extensive career in and out of boxing until then. He said goodbye at the age of 81 on August 8, 2021, leaving a legacy within the institution. His work achieved the federalism of boxing in Argentina, among other things. He deepened the work focused on the youth with the conviction that they would be the true future of boxing.

He was a man of great culture who knew how to capitalize on his different facets: he was a professor of painting, drawing and sculpture, a teacher of visual arts with a degree in history and a businessman in the artistic world. All this allowed him a broader perspective to turn it into his passion: boxing.

One of his last concerted tasks got him involved in the Children’s Boxing without Contact project, which he managed to get underway. Likewise, he sustained and carried forward the confidence in young people to make the sport of fists a better version every time.

Mr. Luis Romio spent a lifetime dedicated to boxing since his father took him to the Federation’s facilities at an early age.

A painful farewell for the Argentine boxing family. The pioneer organization joins the farewell of Mr. Luis Romio.
