Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez and Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada will meet nine years later in one of the most anticipated rematches in contemporary boxing. The Nicaraguan will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Flyweight Super Championship on Saturday, March 13 against the Mexican, who is the WBC champion.

The American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA, will be the venue for the fight between the two best 115 lbs. fighters today.

The first bout, held in 2012, took place in the Light Flyweight division and Gonzalez won in a well-remembered fight. Since then, both have had extraordinary careers.

“Chocolatito” became one of the best pound-for-pound fighters until 2017 when he lost twice to Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. From then on he started a recovery path with five straight victories that made him the WBA champion.

In Estrada’s case, he has also been involved in big fights and has proven to be an excellent fighter. He only has one loss since he fought Gonzalez, coincidentally against the same Thai opponent who defeated Roman.

The time that Gonzalez and Estrada are going through makes the fight highly anticipated and promises action and excitement in the main fight of Matchroom’s event, which will also have Jessica McCaskill-Cecilia Braekhus and Hiroto Kyoguchi-Axel Aragon Vega fighting for titles of the pioneer organization.

The 33-year-old Nicaraguan fighter comes in with a record of 50 wins, 2 losses, and 41 KOs, while the 30-year-old Mexican has 41 wins, 3 losses, and 28 KOs.
