The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee had a busy month of decision-making in various cases concerning some of its champions.

One of them is the WBA Super Bantamweight champion, Brandon Figueroa, from the United States, whose mandatory fight was ordered against Ronny Rios. However, the champion requested a special permit to unify against WBC champion, Luis Nery, which is being reviewed and the decision will be announced in the coming days.

Also, the Cruiserweight champion, Kazakhstan’s Beibut Shumenov, will have to comply with the mandatory fight against Belgium’s Ryad Merhy, and has been ordered to start negotiations with a 30-day deadline until December 31st.

Two title eliminator fights were also approved for the first week of December. One is the fight between Britain’s James Tennyson and Canada’s Josh O’Reilly in the Lightweight division, which will take place this Friday, December 4th, at Wembley; while Eduardo Ramirez and Miguel Flores will fight for the Featherweight eliminator on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.

Another important decision was the request made to Don King Productions to send the contracts with the date and venue of the heavyweight world championship bout between Mahmoud Charr and Trevor Bryan, which bidding took place on March. This fight must take place by January 29th, 2021.

The WBA continues working on its intention to energize boxing and help its recovery after the pandemic break worldwide. The organization will make more decisions on other cases, always with an eye on accelerating the sport and giving action to the fighters.
