The World Boxing Association (WBA) published its December rankings and the awards corresponding to the last month of 2021, in which Gervonta Davis was named Boxer of the Month and Thammanoon Niyomtrong received the Honorable Mention.

Davis closed his year with a unanimous decision victory over Isaac Cruz on December 5 at the old Staples Center in Los Angeles. The American retained his lightweight crown in a packed arena and overcame a hand injury to defeat a complicated opponent like the Mexican in a great performance.

Meanwhile, Niyomtrong retained his minimumweight super championship with a technical knockout against Robert Paradero on December 14, in Phuket, Thailand. The champion showed a great level and dispatched the Filipino in five rounds with a big right hand that sent him to the canvas and forced the referee to end the fight despite Paradero’s efforts to get up.

The WBA congratulates Davis and Niyomtrong for their awards while inviting to view the December rankings in the corresponding section of the official website of the pioneering body.
