WBA mourns the passing of Jorge Humberto Klee

The World Boxing Association (WBA) is mourning the loss of one of its most distinguished members, Colombian journalist and sportsman Jorge Humberto Klee, whose passing was confirmed by his family on the morning of Tuesday, September 9.

Klee died at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and dedication to both sports and journalism. He stood out as an exemplary figure not only in the academic world but also on a deeply personal level.

Born in Barranquilla in 1937, Klee joined the WBA in 1986 and went on to serve for decades as a key voice on the organization’s board. His contributions were vast—he worked with the Appeals Committee, collaborated with the Championships Committee, and consistently brought forward fresh ideas that helped the pioneering sanctioning body expand its influence worldwide.

As a journalist, Klee built a remarkable career spanning six decades, most of it devoted to the sport he loved most: boxing. Beyond the ring, he made history as the founding dean of the School of Social Communication and Journalism at Universidad del Caribe, today one of the leading institutions in Colombia’s Atlantic region.

The WBA family laments the loss of one of its own and extends heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. Thank you for your invaluable contributions, dear friend. Rest in peace.
