The first-ever WBA Europe Convention, held from July 15 to 18 at the Only YOU Hotel Atocha in Madrid, concluded on a high note—cementing the Spanish capital’s status as a rising hub for European boxing. With delegates from more than 20 countries, including promoters, referees, trainers, and fighters, the event delivered both structure and vision for the future of the sport across the continent.

The opening day was headlined by the presence of World Boxing Association President Gilberto Jesús Mendoza and WBA Europe Director María Borisova of Bulgaria. The agenda featured regional reports from WBA Europe, WBA Iberoamérica, and WBA Mediterranean, underscoring the continent’s growing strategic role in the global development of boxing.

One of the standout moments came with the unveiling of the new training robot developed by Leone 1947, a symbol of the sport’s growing embrace of technological innovation. The device piqued the interest of trainers and promoters alike, who saw its potential applications in high-performance gyms around the world.

The convention also paid tribute to Spain’s boxing heritage. Legendary heavyweight contender Alfredo Evangelista was named Honorary WBA World Champion, while special recognition was given to Spanish standouts such as Jennifer Miranda, Miriam Gutiérrez, Kiko Martínez, and Javier Castillejo.

The closing gala took place on July 17 at Teatro Las Vegas and featured a full fight card with championship, professional, and Olympic-style bouts. Headliners included Moussa Gholam, Arlen López, and Bujar Tahiri—all of whom hold WBA Continental titles and delivered standout performances.

The WBA Europe Convention left no doubt: boxing across the continent has structure, ambition, and a bright future. In Madrid, tradition and innovation joined forces—setting the stage for a new era in European boxing.
