Pablo Vicente retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) International super featherweight crown after defeating Angel Rodriguez by majority decision in a close bout on Saturday at the Vasco Nunez de Balboa Convention Center in Panama City.

The judges’ scorecards were 95-95, 97-93 and 96-94, with which the Cuban sealed a great victory in a fight in which he had to work hard to win.

Vicente used his reach and height advantage to fight at long distance and try to control the fight. However, he came up against an opponent who attacked him and landed good power punches, which made the West Indian very uncomfortable in the fight.

Rodriguez was insistent, tried to penetrate Vicente’s guard at all times and hurt when the Cuban was off his back, but in the end it was not enough to defeat him.
