WBA super lightweight champion Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9 KOs) won a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Anton Novikov (29-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday night in front of 2,000 inside the sold out new “Chelsea” venue at the luxurious Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Vargas started well, but Novikov upped his workrate and the pressure bothered Vargas. It was a very tough, gritty fight after that. In the end, the hometown favorite won by surprisingly wide scores of 118-111, 118-111, 117-111.
