In a year of several electrifying fights, Katie Taylor’s clash with Natasha Jonas was selected as the best of 2021 by the World Boxing Association. In addition, the entity awarded an honorable mention, for its spectacularity, to the showdown between Shannon Courtenay and Ebanie Bridges.

Irish Katie Taylor began 2021 by defending her 135 lbs. titles against British Natasha Jonas in what was a tough test for the multi-champion.

These two warriors had already met during their amateur stage, but last May, the story was different: both with a professional career and thirst to be at the top. Jonas managed to put Taylor in trouble in several passages when they fought toe-to-toe. Despite the small difference in height, the Briton had her fair share of successes.

The judges ruled unanimously in favor of Katie Taylor with two scores of 96-95 and one score of 96-94. The score reflected the intensity of the bout.

For its part, the WBA expresses its recognition, with an honorable mention, to the great battle fought on April 10, 2021 between Bridges and Courtenay in London. After being underestimated by the public, both delivered all their boxing in the ring taking euphoric applause from a standing room only crowd.
