Ryan Burnett looks to stay on top

Ryan Burnett has earned everything he has thanks to his talent and achievements in the ring. Last year, when he had to match up against then Super Champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), the Kazakh Zhanat Zhakiyanov, there were many doubts about what he was able to achieve at that level. However, the one from Northern Ireland responded and was crowned with a great victory and achievement.

Immediately, Burnett was in the discussion to be considered one of the best in the division and currently rubs shoulders with some of the best the division has to offer. Saturday’s fight against Filipino veteran Nonito Donaire will be a great opportunity for Burnett to continue climbing and demonstrate all the potential that has been talked about with him.

The British native entered into the World Boxing Super Series and the first round is already a great challenge for him, but he is bound to overcome that challenge if he wants to continue being considered one of the most important names of the weight class. His speed and intelligence are his best tools as he does not need knockouts to show his class. His knockout ratio is a relatively low percentage (47%) but his class truly does shine through in the ring.

He will face a rival with a lot of experience and a big name on this occasion, but his insistent style and his good selection of shots will be his weapons to counteract that disadvantage. In addition, being on British soil is another big factor to this fight – although Donaire is no stranger to fighting on enemy territory.

Burnett will have to prove, once again, that he deserves to be at the top of boxing and a victory against Nonito would ratify him as just that. His undefeated record in 19 fights has some interesting names already and he wants to add one more – perhaps his best – this coming weekend.
