Culiacan, Sinaloa.- The president of the World Boxing Association, the Venezuelan Gilberto Mendoza arrived in the city of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico to participate in the tribute to the Mexican and World Boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez.

This Thursday February 5th will be unveil a statue honoring Chavez in Parque Revolución to honor his boxing career and for giving prestige to Culiacan, Sinaloa where he lived with his family.

Mendoza will be present together with great boxing and world celebrities who will be present at this great sporting event with the well-deserved monument in his honor in Culiacan.

On November 21, 1987 JC Chávez defeated Puerto Rican Edwin “El Chapo” Rosario by KO in round 11 at the Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada to be crowned WBA Lightweight world champion.

“It’s very special to be on this land and a great country that has given much to the Boxing world. We came to participate in this grand tribute to a legend forever as Julio Cesar Chavez is a Mexican champion but belongs to the history of boxing world. For the WBA it is a pride that has been our champion and it is a great pleasure to be in this special moment with the great champion Chavez and his people.” Said Mendoza, President of the WBA.
