The Philippine national boxing team is on a training base in Thailand to prepare for the women’s Olympic-style world championship and the Southeast Asian Games, after a successful participation in the Thailand Open International Boxing Championship.

In that tournament, five gladiators managed to reach the podium. Three of them with gold and two with silver. The intention of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) is that the good performances of its fighters can be repeated in the next two events in which they will participate.

“We have some catching up to do, particularly in physical conditioning. What we did in the Thailand Open was a feedback for us,” said Marcus Manalo, secretary general of the ABAP.

Team officials and coaches expect the athletes to be in top shape before traveling to Vietnam’s capital for the 31st Southeast Asian Games scheduled for May 12-23.
