World Boxing Association women’s bantamweight world champion Nina Hughes will make the second defense of the crown against local Cherneka Johnson on May 12 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, .

Hughes pulled off a major upset when she outpointed former champion Jamie Mitchell in the ring in Dubai on November 26, 2022.

Then, the 41-year-old Briton put on a great sporting performance against Katie Healy on June 10, 2023 at Wembley, making her first successful world defense. To date, she is undefeated in 6 fights with 2 knockouts.

On the other hand, Cherneka Johnson, 29 years old, will arrive for the bout with 15 victories with 6 by fast track and 2 defeats that were in competitive fights: the first setback was against Shannon O’Connell on March 13, 2021 for the WBA Gold bantamweight belt and the second setback was against Ellie Scotney on June 10, 2023 when she lost her IBF super bantamweight belt.

Hughes and Johnson will be part of the undercard where Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr will be the main event in Perth.
