Peter McGrail won the first professional title of his career after defeating Fran Mendoza by unanimous decision to become World Boxing Association (WBA) continental super bantamweight champion on cards of 99-91, 99-91 and 97-93.

The 27-year-old fighter won the crown in Liverpool, the city where he was born, and in a great atmosphere on Saturday night against a strong Colombian fighter who was also undefeated.

McGrail brought out all his tools and left evidence of his good Olympic past, which includes a participation in the Tokyo 2020 Games. A refined technique, good movements on the ring and a good selection of punches were the key to the comfortable victory and the winning of the regional belt of the pioneering body.

McGrail’s undefeated record extended to 8 wins and 5 knockouts, while Mendoza now has 17 wins and 1 loss.
