At Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina, WBA interim welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (2.-1, 27KOs) retained his title with a twelve round unanimous decision against a game DeMarcus Corley (37-14, 22KOs). The scores were 117-110, 117-110 and 115-112. The fight was much closer than the official cards.

The first round was slow but at the end they traded punches and nearly exchanged after the bell. Maidana hurt Corley in the second round. Corley held on and tried to throw back hard punches. Corley stayed true to his promise by trading hard punches with the champion. The war continued in the third and the fourth. Corley would not stop trading with Maidana who seemed a bit annoyed that his punches could not put Corley away.

Slowly Maidana began to wear Corley down. He scored a knockdown on Corley in round eight and was trying to finish him off. Madiana was then stunned when he was coming in. Corley got himself out of trouble with that big punch and lasted until to the bell. Corley gave as good as he got in the ninth and tenth rounds.

Near the end of the eleventh, Maidana appeared very tired. Corley was coming on near the end of the eleventh as Maidana was gassed. The final round was a war. Both traded punches until the final bell. Maidana showed heart by trading until the bell as he was clearly very tired.
