Florencia López Claims WBA Fedelatin Title After Leiryn Flores’ Disqualification

Argentine rising star Florencia López captured the WBA Fedelatin light flyweight title in dramatic fashion after Venezuelan contender Leiryn Flores was disqualified during their bout in Buenos Aires.

López, who remains undefeated with 12 victories, had to dig deep against Flores, who gave the Buenos Aires native all she could handle throughout the fight.

The bout took a controversial turn in the ninth round when Flores landed a blatant headbutt that opened a cut on López, causing blood to flow immediately. The referee wasted no time in calling a halt to the contest, ruling the foul as intentional and disqualifying the Venezuelan.

With her first title under the banner of boxing’s oldest sanctioning body, López now sets her sights on an even bigger prize—a shot at a world championship.
