Erislandy Lara beat Danny Garcia and forced him to retire in the ninth round during their bout last Saturday night in Las Vegas. The Cuban performed well and retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight championship to complete another defence.

Lara looked superior to Garcia at almost every turn. The fight was very tactical from the start, with few punches and a lot of caution from both fighters.

The southpaw monarch never went out of his fight plan and worked very intelligently to start undermining Garcia’s humanity little by little and knock him down in the ninth round near the sound of the bell.

Although Garcia got up and finished the round, his corner decided it was best not to continue the fight and so it was ruled a technical knockout in favour of Lara, who continues his winning streak.

The 41-year-old fighter reached 31 wins, while he has 3 losses and 3 draws, with 19 knockouts. Danny Garcia now has 37 wins, 4 setbacks and 21 knockouts.
