Devin Haney will step into the lion’s den and hopes to come out on top as he has done throughout his career. He will travel to Melbourne, Australia to try to dethrone George Kambosos of his lightweight championships on June 5 in a challenge that looks pretty tough.

Unlike other American champions, who tend to make their home country a safe place to fight, Haney has had to fight on the road on several occasions. Many of his initial fights were in Mexico and so he knows how to deal with having the crowd against him.

“The boos are the boos regardless of the crowd and it’s something I’m used to,” Haney told the AP news agency.

“I’m looking forward to turning the boos into cheers when I’m victorious, that’s the goal. Just like I did when I was in Tijuana,” the American said.

However, Haney does not see the public as an enemy; on the contrary, he wants to win them over with good boxing and has said so.

“I’m looking forward to hugging the public in Australia and I expect the energy that the arena is going to bring, so it’s not going to be a bad thing,” he assured.
