In a razor-thin battle that came down to the narrowest of margins, Gavin Gwynne proved that his suffocating style remains a nightmare for rising prospects. Fighting on a lively British card, the seasoned Welshman snapped the undefeated run of Khaleel Majid via majority decision to capture the vacant WBA International super lightweight title.

The bout was a classic clash between youth and experience. Majid established the early tempo, using lateral movement and sharp hand speed that appeared to trouble Gwynne through the opening three rounds. But beginning in the fourth, the Welsh veteran cut off the ring effectively and turned the contest into a phone-booth fight, forcing sustained exchanges at close range that gradually drained Majid’s gas tank.

Gwynne’s relentless punch output and his ability to walk through the prospect’s counters became the difference in the second half of the fight. Although Majid showed flashes of brilliance in the eighth and ninth rounds, landing crisp combinations upstairs, he could not slow the nonstop pressure of Gwynne, who closed the final frame with a decisive burst of aggression.

After ten rounds of nonstop action, the judges’ scorecards reflected just how competitive the fight had been: one judge scored it even at 95-95, while the other two awarded identical 96-94 cards in favor of the Welshman.

With the victory, Gwynne secures the International title and strategically positions himself in the world rankings at 140 pounds, further proving that his move up to super lightweight has been the right decision to revive his career. Meanwhile, Majid suffers the first defeat of his professional run, though he still reaffirmed his talent and ability to compete at the highest European level.
