The President of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, finished a successful 3-day tour of Astana, Kazakhstan.

His stay in the Euro-Asian country began on July 7th, when Beibut Shumenov was crowned WBA World Cruiserweight Champion, after defeating the Turk Hizni Altunkaya.

On Monday, July 9th, Mendoza held an important meeting with the mayor of Astana, Asset Orentsyevich Issekeshev, with whom he shared together with Shumenov a pleasant boxing talk in which they talked about plans to develop even more boxing in the city. In addition, the highest leader of the WBA gave the mayor a WBA title strap and in turn received a book with the history of Astana.

Later that day the president of the WBA met with the media to whom he communicated his intention to open an WBA office in the country that has great boxing potential, as represented by Gennady Golovkin and Beibut Shumenov.
