Garcia dethroned Gutierrez and is new WBA champion

Hector Garcia fulfilled his dream of becoming world champion after dethroning Roger Gutierrez this Saturday night and becoming the owner of the World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight belt.

With a good Dominican presence at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Hollywood, Florida, the former Olympic fighter annulled the Venezuelan and won 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111 on the scorecards.

Garcia took the center of the ring, threw a lot of punches and left the former champion with no ideas. He worked at the distance that suited him best and the straight right was key to hurt Gutierrez.

Although in the final part of the fight Gutierrez woke up and began to put pressure on Garcia and even managed to connect hard punches, it was not enough. Garcia, far from being intimidated, went toe-to-toe in those final rounds and both put on a great show of exchanges and power punches.

Garcia remains undefeated in his career with 16 wins and 10 knockouts. For his part, Gutierrez dropped to 26 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw and 20 knockouts.

While Cruz will arrive with 14 wins with 3 knockouts and 1 loss, Mrdjenovich will do it with 41 wins, 19 of which he finished before the limit, 11 losses and 2 draws.
