American lightweight Gabriel Flores Jr. made a successful first defense of his WBA Continental USA championship, securing a unanimous decision victory over José Arellano of Mexico. The judges scored the bout 99-89, 98-90, and 95-93, in favor of Flores Jr., in a fight that took place at Chicken Ranch Casino in Jamestown.

This win marks five consecutive victories for Flores Jr. since his 2022 unanimous decision loss to Giovanni Cabrera. In March 2024, he edged out fellow American Julián Rodarte via split decision to claim the WBA Continental USA belt.

With this latest triumph, Flores Jr. improves his record to 26 wins (8 KOs) and 2 losses, as he sets his sights on climbing the rankings and securing bigger fights against the division’s elite.

On the other hand, Arellano has now lost three of his last four bouts. Before his first career defeat, the Chihuahua native had put together an impressive 10-fight winning streak.

Arellano now stands at 11-3 (8 KOs), but with back-to-back losses, his confidence has taken a hit. He will now look for the right opportunity to bounce back and return to the win column.
