France’s Estelle Mossely claimed the World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Lightweight Championship after edging Argentina’s Karen Elizabeth Carbajal by a razor-thin split decision in a thrilling battle at the Palais des Sports Robert Oubron in France.

The back-and-forth nature of the contest was reflected on the judges’ scorecards. Two officials favored Mossely by scores of 98-92 and 96-94, while the third judge saw Carbajal ahead 96-94, giving the former Olympic champion a hard-earned split-decision victory.

From the opening bell, Mossely looked to establish her rhythm with superior hand speed and a sharp jab, controlling the action from long range. Carbajal, however, lived up to her reputation as one of Argentina’s toughest competitors, applying relentless pressure throughout all ten rounds. Time and again she closed the distance, attacked the body, and landed heavy combinations that kept the outcome in doubt until the final bell.

Mossely’s slick footwork and precise counterpunching during the championship rounds ultimately proved to be the difference, allowing the French star to edge ahead when it mattered most.

With the victory, Mossely captures the WBA Interim Lightweight title, strengthening her position among the division’s elite and positioning herself for major opportunities in the 135-pound division before the end of the year.
