Two panthers sharpen their claws for this Friday, December 30, when they step into the ring of the Casino de Buenos Aires in Argentina. Erica Farias and Maira Moneo will fight in a World Boxing Association lightweight eliminator where Katie Taylor is the absolute champion.

Farias, better known as “La Pantera”, is one of the most outstanding boxers in Argentina. She began a long career in boxing with the national amateur team, having achieved elite medalist status in continental competitions and with a great participation in the 2006 World Championship in India. Then, in July 2009, she made the leap to professionalism and since then she has conquered the WBC super lightweight belt with a total of 12 successful defenses. She is ranked number 6 in the WBA world rankings and has a total of 27 wins with 10 knockouts and 6 losses.

Among her outstanding opponents are Cecilia Braekhus, Jessica McCaskill, Delfine Persoon and Mikaela Mayer. Farias is very hungry to be crowned again, showing a great sporting performance at 38 years of age.

On the other hand, Uruguayan Maira “Panterita” Moneo is 8 years younger, and has 11 victories with 2 quick defeats and only 1 loss. She is number 1 in the WBA ranking and current owner of the FEDELATIN belt of the pioneer organization.

Although Moneo comes from fierce battles with Yamila Reynoso, Ana Romina Guichapani or Paola Benavidez, this will undoubtedly be the biggest challenge of her career.

Both boxers look sharp and fierce styles and promise to be a great attraction for this Friday in the last day of 2022.
